We took a trip up the coast and stopped in Fort Bragg, Ca. to ride the Skunk Train. My mom and dad came along with us and it was a beautiful drive. Joey was so excited to go on his first train ride. We left from Fort Bragg and rode the winding tracks through coastal redwood and ferns that covered the hillside while following a beautiful creek. During the train ride the engineer told stories of days old. How this area of California was full of loggers making their living. Now all that is left is machinery long forgotten and cabins that dot the hillsides. The forest has definitely reclaimed this territory. It was truly a beautiful ride. Along the way they had a guitar player who sang old songs about trains. The kids and us clapped along and sang if we new the song. When we got to Northspur the train had to be turned around for the trip home, so we all hopped off to the hospitality of a family who prepares meals for sale. I had a very yummy chicken pot pie and when we were finished we were able to do a little site seeing of the tall coastal redwoods. They are so amazing! We boarded the train and got ready for our trip back to the train depot. Joey slept most of the way back as we enjoyed more guitar playing and songs.
The Skunk Train was named by the Logger because of the fumes from the gas and diesel engines that could be smelled downwind before the trains arrived.
I am Happy,
